Shawn Coats, M.Ed.
Franchise Owner and College Planner
Shawn is the owner of Class 101 Mesa-Gilbert, where her mission is to help students and families navigate the complex process leading to successful and affordable college admission. Shawn is a certified college planner with a B.A. in Political Science and Educational Leadership from the University of San Diego and her M.A. in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University.
Most recently, she has worked as a High School Assistant Principal creating individualized educational career action plans and has helped over 1100 students with their post-secondary planning. She firmly believes there is immeasurable value in assisting high school students with their college planning. Not only does mentoring the student help parents maintain their relationship with their child, but it also saves them money through increasing scholarship awards and avoids students selecting a university that does not fit their interest.
Passionate about helping young adults plan for their future, Shawn volunteers on scholarship committees and participates in several community service organizations all while raising three very active teenagers with her husband.
While helping her oldest son navigate the college admission process, several other families reached out to Shawn for advice. This prompted her to research college planning services, and after an entire year of exploration, she purchased a Class 101 franchise because they offer the most comprehensive college planning services at a price point a family can easily afford. Shawn is extremely excited to bring Class 101’s proven methods to the Mesa-Gilbert community. Over the last 20 years, Class 101, a national leader in college planning, has helped over 3,100 students earn over $136,336,000 in scholarships, study and prepare over 8,000 ACT/SAT tests and attend over 300 colleges around the world.

“Mrs. Coats, you are a truly fabulous woman. I would be lost if not for your limitless guidance and advice; and you do it with a covetable grace and loving authenticity! I am scared for the years to come without you, but at least I know other high school students will benefit from your skills. It’s all been worth it!”
“Mrs. Coats helped me plan for my future education (college), apply, register for classes, and process financial aid. She also helped me build my ethics, morals, showed me how to never give up, and taught me to exceed in everything I do.”
“My experience with Class 101 was really good, they’ll breakdown what you’re struggling on and help you improve it. It worked for me and I went up 5 points on my ACT. I couldn’t be more pleased.”
